Laura’s Summer Round up

It has been a busy summer. So busy, in fact, that we didn’t even get chance to write our Roundup until now! Here’s a brief lowdown on the biggest goings-on during this summer.

We had a visit from our Summer Raffle jackpot winner, Mr Fletcher, in early August collecting his £3,000 winning cheque. He took the opportunity to take a tour of the hospice and see what his support means to the hospice. The Summer Raffle raised a fantastic £43,444 which will go towards the many services Dove House Hospice is able to develop and run free of charge to the user. A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Summer Raffle.

We welcomed a new beneficiary the Charlie Cookson Foundation. We have been working closely together and have been inspired by the courage, generosity and drive of Charlie’s family and friends to help as many families as they can. The Foundation provides financial support for parents caring 24/7 for their seriously ill children and have helped over 50 families since it was created in 2013. We are delighted to welcome them into our lottery family and to help provide regular and valuable income to help as many families as possible when they need it most. Find out more about their great work here.

Throughout the summer our Community Lottery Assistants have been busy attending events in the East Riding and North Lincolnshire, selling lottery products and scratch cards and raising awareness of the hospice. Find out a bit more about what it is like to be one of the team and meet Gemma, who works throughout the West of Hull and surrounding villages here.

Our Community Lottery Assistants sell many of our lottery products including our unique range of wedding favours. Our favours have also been available to buy in our online shop since March. Many future brides and grooms have been visiting the site buying their wedding favours online while also raising funds for Dove House. Take a peep here.

As a result of the weekly draw, eight more people have been made £1,000 richer over the last two months! Congratulations to all and thank you for your continued support. If you’d like a chance to win great prizes and be part of our family of winners, you too can sign up here.

Our Provide a Nurse campaign launched back in May last year continues to do well with 1,516 more people signing up to play the weekly draw. We are well on our way to funding the equivalent of 4 nurses for a whole year at Dove House. We only need 324 more people to sign up to reach our target. Could you be one of them? Learn more about the campaign here.

It might only be September but the Christmas fever has already spread. Our office is starting to look like a mini Christmas grotto! Our volunteer elves have been busy preparing our Christmas Crackers and boxes. Speaking of elves, we have been busy picking out names for our ‘elf in a box’. You won’t know until you open the box if your elf is naughty or nice or more importantly lucky as they all come with a scratch card and a top prize of £1,000! They will be available to purchase from November in our online shop, Dove House reception and at events in Hull and around the East Riding.
