hornsea inshore rescue

Hornsea Inshore Rescue is an independent, volunteer-run lifeboat charity that saves lives when seconds count. We respond to vessels in distress and people in immediate danger at sea. Without our rapid response, people would lose their lives. We operate in all conditions, day and night.

WHY SUPPORT US

Hornsea Inshore Rescue was formed to provide a rapid, professional lifesaving response along the East Yorkshire coastline. Operated entirely by trained volunteers, the service exists solely to protect life at sea.

From its beginnings as a community led rescue service, Hornsea Inshore Rescue has grown into a highly respected, professional operation working closely with HM Coastguard and other emergency services.
Our volunteer crews undergo extensive training to enable them to respond safely and effectively in challenging sea conditions. Launching is often carried out in darkness, heavy seas and poor weather conditions where experience, teamwork and preparation are critical.
In addition to emergency rescues, Hornsea Inshore Rescue plays an active role in the local community. We welcome school visits, support water safety education, work with SEND (Special Educational Needs) groups, and help bring visitors into Hornsea, supporting the wider local economy.
Every rescue, every training session and every piece of equipment is funded entirely by donations, fundraising and community support.

The Hornsea Inshore Rescue Lottery is one of the most important ways you can help us continue this vital work.
"We never imagined how quickly things could go wrong. One moment we were paddling, the next our kayaks were overturned and we were in the sea. The cold hit immediately. We clung to our kayaks, but the waves kept pushing us apart and the strength drained from our bodies very quickly. My hands were numb, my legs barely working, and I could feel myself becoming confused. I now know that was hypothermia setting in. I genuinely don’t think we had much time left. When the lifeboat arrived it was overwhelming relief. The crew were calm, professional and reassuring. They got us out of the water, treated us, and made sure we were safe. Without Hornsea Inshore Rescue, I honestly believe this story would have ended very differently. I will never forget what they did for us that day.”

“I took my dog for a walk along the beach, something I’d done many times before. I didn’t realise how fast the tide was coming in until it was too late. Suddenly the water was around me and my dog was panicking. I tried to keep us both above water, but the current was strong and I was exhausted. I remember thinking I wasn’t going to make it, and that my dog wouldn’t either. When the rescue crew arrived it felt like a miracle. They reached us just in time, getting both me and my dog to safety. I owe my life and my dog’s to Hornsea Inshore Rescue. Their courage, speed and kindness saved us when we had no way out.”
