Lindsey Lodge Hospice
Lindsey Lodge offers free vital care & support for patients & their families
in North Lincolnshire living with life-limiting illnesses.
What we do...
Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe is a safe-haven that provides specialist care for people with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, heart failure and motor neurone disease. It has to raise £2.5 million this year to enable the palliative service to provide Day Care for patients and 24 hour care in our In-Patient Unit along with complementary therapies, lymphedema clinic, therapeutic craft activities and pamper sessions to enable patients to relax.
Loved ones are cared for just as much throughout the whole process and receive bereavement support for as long as they need. Lindsey Lodge simply couldn’t continue to provide this service for local people without the support of the generous public, as the hospice receives little funding and has to raise 79% of its running costs.
The hospice began life in 1992 thanks to local people fundraising and it started off providing Day Care for those in the area; however an in-patient unit was in high demand and in 2002, with great pleasure, Her Majesty The Queen opened this specialised unit. Over the years we have expanded with accommodation for loved ones to stay over, therapies and a lymphedema clinic.
Our hospice is not just a place where people spend their final days- it’s about living and controlling their illness. Some people do die at the hospice, however many continue to receive care for years to enable them to be more comfortable living with a life-debilitating illness. Our care helps patients manage pain and improve quality of life for both the patient and loved ones.
Why choose to support us?
Lindsey Lodge Hospice offers free care to those who need it most and without the support of people like you, we wouldn’t be able to offer our professional and caring services to those who need it most. Over 140 local people every week pass through our doors with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and heart failure.
We offer vital care, comfort and precious memories for patients and loved ones who describe their visit as “cocooned in love” and have been cared for by “angels with open arms.” We make patients feel “as special as possible” with a hair dressing salon on site, beauty and craft therapies and loved ones can stay over in purpose-built accommodation.
The hub of the hospice is our day care centre which provides symptom management and a place to socialise in homely surroundings and enjoy therapeutic craft activities.
It costs the hospice £4.80 every single minute to run. This includes: £1,200 every month on vital oxygen for patients, £550 a day on care for an in-patient, £225 a day for personalised care for day care patients and £127 for a lymphedema massage that makes patients feel more comfortable. Thank you in advance for helping us to raise £2.5 million a year to run this vital service for local people.
