our story
The Support Group is a Registered Charity which was formed in 1984. The members on the Support Group are parents and Unit staff, who work together to give a better start in life to the tiny or sick babies and their families who have been treated and cared for on the Unit.
“The object of the Group is the relief, care and treatment of premature and sick new born babies in the Special Care Baby Unit at York Hospital, by providing and assisting in the provision of specialised medical or surgical equipment and improved amenities and facilities including education and vocational training.”
The voluntary donations that the Special Care Baby Unit Support Group receive enable the unit to purchase new equipment as well as bits and pieces that help to make the families stay on the unit more comfortable.
"Our York SCBU experience was AMAZING! We will all forever be grateful for everything they did for us"
"Thanks to everyone at York SCBU for all of your help and taught us so much and we will be forever grateful"
"Will forever be grateful to all members of staff on the unit who didn't treat us like patients, we were treated as family"
THE DIFFERENCE you could make
We are a not-for-profit charity and rely heavily on the generosity of people and their donations to help as many babies who need our care as possible. We have minimal financial support and every £1 could help make a difference to those who need our help from providing small essentials all the way to new equipment for the ward.
£26 could provide 12 ‘Say Hello’ sibling diaries
£52 could go towards the cost of half a litre of breast milk for the babies in our care.
