Our story
Hull 4 Heroes was founded by Paul Matson, an army veteran with first hand experience of the difficulties of transitioning back to civilian life. Upon leaving the army he found himself adrift from mainstream society, ultimately ending up homeless for a period of time. With the support of others he got back on his feet, started a roofing and conservatory business to support himself and his growing family. Volunteering the BBC DIY SOS Big Build in Manchester creating a ‘Veteran’s Street’ inspired him to create Hull 4 Heroes to help veterans in his home town of Hull through home improvements, housing and sourcing employment.
“Hull 4 Heroes have absolutely changed my life. I feel that I am now a part of an amazing family. The support and inclusion I have received has been overwhelming and I now feel confident within myself, I finally feel complete” – Chris Ashton, Patron
What we do
Our aim is the help our ex-service men and women on the path to a bright and meaningful future in civilian life. We provide veterans with a supportive network, helping them with housing, education and employment opportunities. However this is just the beginning, we aim to create a nationwide support network for veterans that can assist in all aspects of their transition from a military life. Our Veterans Village project will see us create a purpose built center that will provide a safe and stable platform for veterans, where they can create a happy and purposeful life for themselves and their families in civilian society.
THE DIFFERENCE you could make
We are a not-for-profit charity and rely heavily on the generosity of people and their donations to help as many veterans as possible. We have no fixed or regular financial support and every £1 could help make a difference to the families who need our help.
