WHAT WE DO
Our main focus is to provide a diverse range of inclusive and accessible social activities around the region for people with disabilities and their families.
We believe that no-one should miss out on a full and active social life because of their disability. Many of our members may look or act differently and have had negative experiences in public places. Special Stars Foundation provides an umbrella of support to our members and empowers parent carers to feel confident in public places. We have often been referred to as a ‘lifeline’ for families caring for a person with a disability who have previously been isolated before finding out about us
In addition to these important social opportunities, we offer a variety of support for parent carers such as counselling and advice on any issue relating to disability. If we cannot directly help, we will refer you to someone who can. We also support parent carers by providing training for parent carers to learn new skills, such as Makaton and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and informational seminars on a range of issues, from sleep support to legal matters such as Power of Attorney and Wills and Trusts and much more in-between.
THE DIFFERENCE you could make
We are a not-for-profit charity run by volunteers who are also parent carers of disabled people ourselves. We have no regular or fixed income and rely on financial support from the local communities to help fund our vital services.
